Curriculum Overview

Business Plans = Communication
Regardless of the functional area, all successful business executives are constantly involved in the communication and selling of their ideas, projects, and initiatives. The selling of concepts and ideas happens every day either to colleagues within the organization or to various outside constituencies. Those business professionals who master this most critical process will find their careers advancing much faster than those that do not. Using the One Page Business Plan process, the curriculum is focused on teaching students the techniques of organizing and communicating very complex business ideas in a simple but very powerful manner.

One Page Business Plan is a Powerful Template
In the traditional business planning process, the primary emphasis is on thorough documentation and demonstrating the author's business acumen by having done all of the homework. The One Page Business Plan process is not a substitute for having done all of the detailed work. Rather, it is a template for communicating (i.e., selling) the business concept in a brief, but powerful, form. The skills of communicating clear ideas and prioritized concepts will benefit business students (as well as those in other disciplines) throughout their professional lives.

Curriculum is Extremely Flexible and Web-based
The Junior Achievement International One Page Business Plan Web Classroom course will consist of eight 45-minute lesson plans. The OPBP course is designed to be extremely flexible. The lessons may be presented during one class session, once a week for 8 weeks by a successful local business executive, the university professor, or a combination of the two. Alternatively, the professor may assign this program to the students as a self-paced web exercise for class credit. All course content, training for the professor and business volunteer and five megabytes of space for each student will be offered via the One Page Business Plan website. Students who complete the supplemental course will be prepared to create their own One Page Business Plans for entry into the Global Competition if they so elect.
