College and University Programs
The One Page Business Plan Company offers classroom learning modules and web-based system access help teach business literacy at both graduate and undergraduate course levels. Using the One Page Business Plan process, this curriculum focuses on teaching students the techniques of organizing and communicating very complex business ideas in a simple but powerful manner.

In the traditional business planning process, the primary emphasis is on thorough documentation and demonstrating the author's business acumen by having done all of the homework. The One Page Business Plan process is not a substitute for having done all of this detailed work. Rather, it is a template for communicating (i.e., selling) the business concept in a brief, yet powerful form with an eye towards implementation. The skills of communicating clear ideas and prioritized concepts will benefit business students (as well as those in other disciplines) throughout their entire professional lives.

Curriculum is Extremely Flexible and Web-based
The One Page Business Plan course consists of eight 45-minute lesson plans and is based in the best-selling text of the same title. The lessons may be presented during one class session, once a week for 8 weeks by the professor or instructor.

In addition to the written text materials, the school may elect to provide access to the web-based One Page Planning and Performance System to be reimbursed by the student through regular tuition or lab fees.

Here are comments of some of the educators who have used the One Page Business Plan book in their classroom as part of a Business Education Lesson Plan and Curriculum:

William Anhalt, Ph.D.
Professor, Graduate School of Business
Golden Gate University

"The One Page Business Plan book has been extremely well received by my students in the graduate program at Golden Gate University in my classes in Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship. I have used it several times in conjunction with more typical "two- pound texts". The real work of the course and the value of the results from the Horan book always outstrip the more traditional texts used. The One Page Business Plan book facilitates clear, concise, valuable thinking. It helps the students truly understand the planning of business and allows me to observe and understand the level of progress of the students like no other textbook I have found. In my classes the chief piece of work is the development and presentation of a business plan. With the use of the One Page Business Plan book, the resulting plans generally have a level of reality, completeness and real life usability that I have not had submitted to me in my previous twenty years of teaching."

Susan Urquhart-Brown
Program Director/Instructor, UC Berkeley Extension
Berkeley, California

"Sometimes the most profound ideas/methods/innovations are deceptively simple. The One Page Business Plan certainly is one of those: It makes the complex simple. The ultimate purpose of any plan is to implement it to reach a goal. The One Page Plan is a dynamic document that helps an entrepreneur or manager track performance, establish shared vision of what the business is and where it's going, and can easily be changed to fit the realities of a business's life. As an adjunct instructor at UC Berkeley Extension, I've found the One Page Planning process to be invaluable to my students who are mostly seasoned professionals starting their own businesses."

Thomas Giossi
Professor, Southern New Hampshire University
Lowell, Massachusetts

"I have had the pleasure of using the One Page Business Plan at the Graduate School of Business at the New Hampshire College and used it for micro and small business planning in Ethiopia at the Addis Ababa Commercial College. The One Page Business Plan is especially useful for individuals that have limited writing skills and for those coming from cultures where the value of verbal communications exceeds written forms. The concise form and formulations of Jim Horan’s one-page planning process encourage a level of original design not seen in forms that are more traditional. As an instructor and trainer, I rate the One Page Plan an A+ for versatility and fostering innovation and critical thinking."

Young-Soo You
Professor, Sunmoon University Asan

"I believe that a supplemental course, or a workshop on the One Page Business Plan along with a global business plan would be very well received in Korea’s universities. I will aggressively support the introduction of the One Page Business Plan into Korea. This is an outstanding approach to business planning!"

Elisabeth Watson
Adjunct Entrepreneurship & Finance Professor
San Francisco State
San Francisco, California

"The One Page Business Plan provides students with what they will need as managers... a relevant, action-oriented process. By working through the vision, mission, strategies, objectives and plans, they test the feasibility of their ideas and begin to understand the type and breadth of resources they need to build a viable business. First, they are appropriately overwhelmed by the challenges, but then recognize that they have also defined the steps to meet them. Once this process occurs, we have effectively conveyed the experience of management."

Carlyle Johnson
Academic Director, Executive MBA Programs
Golden Gate University
San Francisco, California

"In my role as academic director, I am charged with insuring that each of the twelve graduate courses in the EMBA curriculum not only are relevant and challenging to our students, but also insuring continuity among these courses.

Students who participate in the program are mid to upper level managers, with a sprinkling of entrepreneurs and professionals. One of the criticisms of the sequence was that they did not feel that they were confident in completing a business plan.

Thus, I have been keeping an eye out for some way that we could introduce the elements of a business plan early in the course sequence. Even more desirable would be to introduce the planning activity in the second trimester, revisit it with more advanced applications in the third trimester, and finally, use the plan as a way of wrapping up many of the applications (e.g., marketing, finance, etc.) during the final trimester.

I have attended a One Page Planning and Performance System (OPPPS) accreditation session with Jim Horan. From this session and subsequent talks, I am now exploring with him along with several colleagues how we can embed the OPPPS within the instructional sequence of the twelve courses.

It seems to me that including college-level variations of the OPPPS is needed in today's business school curricula. We at Golden Gate University's Executive MBA program hope to be one of the first graduate programs to integrate OPPPS."

John Weld
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management Professor Saint Marys College Moraga, California

"I taught Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management in the Saint Mary’s Executive MBA program for almost 20 years. I wish the One Page Business Plan® had been available at that time, as I believe it is the perfect planning tool for owners of closely held businesses at all stages of development and evolution. All business students would benefit from mastering this tool!"
